Bengt's Fortuna (fortunei x ungernii) x hemsleyanum

A rhododendron variety belonging to the new series with enormous leaves called Green Giants. It was cultivated in Sweden by Bengt Karlsson. This variety is the result of crossing three species with large leaves. Rhododendron Fortuna is characterized by spectacularly large leaves - the length of the leaf reaches up to 25 cm and the width up to 10 cm. An average leaf measures 20 cm x 9 cm. The leaves are light green and matte. Flower buds and leaf stalks have an intense purple color. Laboratory frost resistance tests have shown that it withstands temperature drops down to -22°C without damage. In the ground, it has survived winters with temperatures as low as -18°C. The flowers are large, creamy, and lightly scented. The shrubs have good vigor and grow very strongly. We estimate that after 10 years, they can reach up to 2.5 meters in height and width.
